Why Panama?

Panama, a country so small yet filled with exuberant rainforests, unparalleled biodiversity, and a rich cultural heritage.

The name, Panama, means "the place of abundant fish and butterflies."
This is a very apt description as Panama has more species of plants and animals than just about anywhere in the world.

It is also the home of a number of diverse indigenous groups that have managed to maintain much of their traditional lifestyles despite the changing world around them.

Panama is also “abundant” in many other ways. This small country that links Central and South America also links the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. It is a true global crossroads with a history and culture that reflect Panama’s many global connections.
Some of the highlights for visitors to Panama include:
  • Plant and wildlife diversity
  • Rainforest and national parks
  • Islands and beaches
  • The Panama canal
  • Indigenous culture
  • Colonial history
  • Cultural diversity
  • Tropical medicine and research

These are only a few of the many possibilities
